Otter is a bass music producer and DJ from Preston, England who first discovered his passion for music at the age of 16 when he played bass in a hardcore band. Soon after he became influenced by artists such as Squarepusher and Aphex Twin and became involved in electronic music production. After acquiring his first set of turntables at the age of 20, he quickly mastered the art of beat matching and extended his skills further by learning to scratch and beat juggle and joined a band as a turntable and synthesiser player.

 

It wasn’t long before Otter developed a love and passion for bass music, so after being mesmerised by the deep dubstep sound, he started buying vinyl and got his first gig playing dubstep at a dub night he co-promoted with the mighty Operation Sound System.

 

In 2006 Otter joined the collective Cold Up Norf and started getting booked for dubstep sets at drum n bass nights. Gaining residency at a night called 'Drop', he regularly played alongside names such as Caspa, Rusko, Reso, Goth Trad, Kromestar, Coki, Compa, Bar 9, 16 Bit, The Others, Datsik and Breakage, just to name a few! Otter’s musical influences include Massive Attack, Burial, Synkro, Phaeleh, Bonobo and Cinematic Orchestra.

 

In 2011 Otter moved to Australia where he now DJs on local radio stations, although he is currently focusing most of his time on his new production projects for 2014. He Recently began working with a local vocalist, Nereeda who has seamlessly complemented his sound in the track 'Before' which will be his first release with us on Dubtribu Records.
